This whole site started out years back as a purely personal site, a place to display photos from our travels mainly (this was in the days before online photo sites). It's now morphed to include work stuff as well. Who knows, maybe one day I'll separate them again, but for now I decided to leave it all together. After all, all work and no play makes life pretty dull...
Here's my blog about developments at our farm in Australia. Dave and I live in London, but a few years ago we bought 30 acres and a falling down house in Australia. One day 5-10 years hence we're hoping to move there. Until then we're doing as much as we can from the other side of the world... designing our dream house, buying architectural salvage on Ebay, planting trees on our yearly trips, etc. It's kinda crazy, but hey, it keeps me sane. Some people launch startups in their spare time. I build a farm. :-)
In the process of designing our dream house, I became interested in architecture. Here's links to some of my favourite photo sets from visits to historic houses and neighborhoods:
- Standen: an Arts & Crafts house in Sussex designed by Philip Webb
- Wooden houses in Tallin: they're falling down but I loved them still
- Oak Park, Chicago: a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright's studio and early houses
I'm also very much into gardening. In fact that's one of the reasons why we bought the farm in Australia in the first place - so I'd have space to make a BIG garden. One of the great things about living in the UK is that there are so many wonderful gardens to visit. Here's photo sets from some we've visited recently. (apologies, some are still on KodakGallery as haven't moved them over to Flickr yet, but you can still get in without registering if you click on the little link near the bottom on the page that opens)
- Gibberd Garden in Harlow Essex
- Courts Garden in Wiltshire
- Hidcote in the Cotswolds, both in summer and autumn
- Snowshill Manor in the Cotswolds
- Lyme Hall in Cheshire
- Levens Hall in Cumbria, 300 year old topiary gardens
- Acorn Bank garden in Cumbria
And here's a couple of random videos I've posted which seem to have interested a few people
- Maglev trainride in Shanghai that I filmed in January 2006 on a fleeting visit
- Guam in 1969 - Super8 film of my Mum's that I converted. (Mum and Dad were based there during the Vietnam war)
- World Championship guinea pig races, 1985 that I found on the end of a family compilation video Dad made
